The Scion OTM260 by FLIR is a thermal imaging monocular specially designed for maritime use and boating. Indeed, with a 9hz refresh rate, this camera may be used on international waters. The camera is an ideal alternative to the FLIR Ocean Scout series. The FLIR Scion OTM260 is specially designed for long distance observations in complete darkness, bad weather conditions and the most challenging environments.
This handheld monocular gives you the ability to detect heat up to 560 meters (according to Johnson criteria). The thermal camera has a 640x512 (12µm) Boson detector and an optical magnification of 1x. You can increase this to 2x, 4x and 8x with a digital zoom. The device has GPS, Wi-fi, Bluetooth and endless photo and video capabilities. Recordings are easily transferred to another device through the built-in Wi-fi and Bluetooth, or via the supplied USB cable. The thermal imager has 2GB internal storage.
The OTM260 has three observation modes. You can use the standard Scouting Mode, to observe as you are used to. A new feature is the Lock-Span Mode. This filters out unwanted temperatures that you don't want in the picture. Think of very cold or warm temperatures, or bright objects like the sky and fire. With this, only objects are given a color that you want to focus on; filtered objects are displayed in black. The third mode is Picture-in-Picture. You use this option to zoom in further (2x) on a particular object in the picture, without losing the rest of the field of view.
Power for the camera is provided by 6 CR123 batteries (included). The operating time is approximately 4.5 to 5 hours. The unit also features an auto-shutdown function, to extend the usage time. Via the 1/4" threaded connection, you can also place the camera on a tripod. Of course, the camera is IP67 certified, so it is waterproof and shockproof.
This thermal imaging camera is the camera for use during boating and is extremely suitable for use on the water. Because of the 9hz refresh rate, this camera does not fall under the dual-use regulation, which allows this camera to be used internationally. Because a thermal camera detects heat differences, the Scion OTM260 is indispensable for detecting persons who have hit the water. In addition, a thermal imaging camera is not dependent on the ambient light present, making the viewer usable in any situation (from daylight to complete darkness). Of course, you can also use this camera for any other application in which you want to use thermal imaging to detect persons, animals or objects.
